Farmers as Agents of Sustainable Change in Agriculture and Society

Climate change and environmental degradation are existential threats to Europe and the world. The agricultural sector is one of the most critical sectors in transforming the EU’s economy and society towards a long-term sustainable future.

Sustainable agriculture is at the heart of the Agenda 2030 and the EU Green Deal. Along with the Farm to Fork Strategy, the Biodiversity Strategy, and the New Common Agriculture Policy, the EU lays a foundation for a change in agriculture. There is a clear need to redesign the food systems as we know them today.

EU farmers are faced with several challenges as they continue to supply food and non-food products and, at the same time, are asked to contribute to the transition towards a sustainable future.

CEFE International, in partnership with Post Innovation for Sustainable Development – PI4SD, Biotehniški centre Naklo, Hof Und Leben GmbH, The Polish Farm Advisory Centre, CANDIDE INTERNATIONAL and ReadLab is leading the project: Small and Medium Farm Holders as Agents of Sustainable Change in Agriculture and Society (Farm4SD). Farm4SD, Small and Medium Farms Holders as Agents of Sustainable Change in Agriculture and Society, is a two-year project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union.

The Farm4SD project will empower a new generation of farmers! This project aspires to educate European farmers on the pillars of sustainable agriculture and help them gain entrepreneurial and soft skills through training to stay relevant in the market. Furthermore, the project addresses VET institutions and VET trainers to help them better understand farmers’ needs and improve their capacity in advanced training methodologies and skill recognition, so they can better serve European farmers and the European sustainable agriculture labor market.
